WHO ARE WE?

The Tallis family has been part of the Dookie landscape for several generations. A traditional farming family by background, involved in broadacre cropping, sheep and cattle, our wine journey began during 1998.

How we got here. A passion for wine, coupled with the rich red volcanic soils and gently sloping hills sweeping across the property provided too great a temptation and the plunge into the wine industry was taken. In early 2000, family and friends hand picked the first harvest. This batch of wine was made with great anticipation and whilst tiny, we were so encouraged (and to be honest, a little astonished) by the quality of our fruit and the potential of our vineyard, that we now have 24ha established including shiraz, cabernet, viognier, sangiovese, barbera, nebbiolo and merlot.

Environmentally Aware. Today, Richard and Alice with the help of Andrea, Tanya, Max and Pete, run the enterprise. We have a down to earth, natural approach to the land and this is reflected in all areas of our business. In our vineyard, although not accredited, we endeavor to follow organic growing practices to reduce our impact on the environment. We also minimize the use of additives during winemaking wherever we can, to lessen our impact on you. Although if you have a few too many glasses of Tallis wine we can’t be held accountable for that!

Why we do what we do. We enjoy living and working on our property, closely monitoring the development of our vines, grapes and wine and it is extremely satisfying to oversee the whole process from vineyard to table. Our focus is to build a brand of integrity, which never compromises on quality and along the way have some fun. Each vintage since the beginning of Tallis Wine, family and friends have shared our passion in wine and have been involved in our development - harvesting the grapes, making the wines and most importantly enjoying it with us.
