James Halliday 4 1/2 star winery rating ...

James Halliday is one of the world’s leading authorities on Australian wine, matching intelligent honest reviews with an unparalleled knowledge of, and passion for, the wine industry. After many years of putting our heart and soul into our wines, James Halliday has awarded Tallis Wine with a 4 ½ star winery rating in his Australian Wine Companion 2010/2011.

Our reaction was one of disbelief that we had finally achieved this milestone, so much so that we had to ring the publisher to ask her to double-check that it really was Tallis Wine that received the accolade. Twice. In fact we spelt the name to her during each call. Twice. Then the screaming began … and we’re still celebrating.
Seeing people enjoy our wines is the greatest satisfaction for a wine producer however receiving feedback from one of the grandfathers of the Australian wine industry is an enormous pat on the back.

Tallis Wine 4 1/2 star winery rating
“Excellent winery able to produce wines of high to very high quality, knocking on the door of a 5-star rating.”

Here is what James Halliday had to say about Tallis Wine
“Richard and Alice Tallis have 16 ha of shiraz, 5.4 ha of cabernet sauvignon, 2 ha of viognier and a small planting of sangiovese and merlot. They have embarked on winemaking with considerable success. The philosophy of their winemaking and viticulture is minimal intervention to create a low- input and sustainable system; use of environmentally harmful sprays is minimised.”

The Silent Showman Shiraz Viognier 2006
Developed red, although no brick hue yet; a supple wine that (appropriately) has many of the characters of the ’07, although it is surprising there is only 12 months difference; a percentage of co-fermented viognier works well, and the more the wine is tasted, the more the length of the palate manifests itself. Screwcap.
14% alc. Rating 94 Drink 2026

The Silent Showman Shiraz 2007
Deep, dark purple-red; all the best techniques have been employed in making this opulent full-bodied shiraz, with blackberry, spice and vanilla spun in a complex web of flavour; the ’06 suggests even better things in store. Screwcap.
14.6% alc. Rating 92 Drink 2027

Dookie Hills Sangiovese 2006
Has well above-average intensity and length with strong sour cherry, tobacco and spice flavours running through the long palate. Screwcap.
14.4% alc. Rating 90 Drink 2013

Dookie Hills Shiraz 2005
Spice and sweet leather aromas lead into a medium-bodied palate of red and black fruits supported by spicy tannins and oak. Screwcap.
13% alc. Rating 90 Drink 2013

The popularity of Rose continues to grow in Australia as this style of wine perfectly matches our love of seafood, and the lingering alfresco lunch.

Salmon-pink. Crushed strawberries and cherry blossom aromas present a very attractive nose. Excellent balance between refreshing acidity and fruit sweetness make this fun flirtatious wine just delightful for the warm Australian summer.

      ALC/VOL 13%. Approx 7.7 standard drinks. Preservative 220 added.

REVIEW. Tallis Dookie Hills Rose 2006 Recommended. Vivid red-purple; lively red cherry and strawberry running through a lingering, dry finish. Rating 89. James Halliday – Australian Wine Companion 2008 edition.
