Our Silent Showman wines are named in honour of Sir George Tallis, a live theatre entrepreneur and the man behind the world’s largest entertainment organisation in the 1920′s. Sir George Tallis was a modest man, not given to self promotion therefore his story and many accomplishments remain largely unknown. In his honour, our flagship range, the Silent Showman are wines produced from the best grapes in the vineyard and only in the best vintages.

Outstanding deep crimson and purple in the glass with a bouquet reminiscent of juicy cassis and plums. Equally generous on the palate, the lush dark fruits are supported by fine ripe tannins and a velvety mouth-filling texture. The finish is long and flavoursome.

Shiraz vines love the Cambrian soils of our Dookie vineyard, consequently the grapes we harvest require little intervention during winemaking to produce richly flavoured wines with excellent cellaring potential.

Vibrant cherry red in colour. The intense sour cherry and earthy aroma characteristic of this variety are present in abundance. The light to medium bodied palate has a fine balance of cherry fruit and savoury notes. The firm tannin backbone adds length and structure to this Italian red.

True to variety with mint and cassis fruit aromas evident. Lashings of dark berries, earth and choc-mint are found in the ripe, textured palate with just a touch of oak to add complexity. The full-bodied palate is supported by fine tannins.

Barrel fermented aromas of mocha oak and chocolate are in harmony with a concentrated blackberry and liquorice bouquet. The full bodied palate is lavish with dark berry and chocolate flavours, smooth, ripe tannins and great presence of flavour.

The Dookie terrior is well suited to growing shiraz. As our vines get older we are seeing greater concentration of fruit flavour with each consecutive vintage.

Unmistakeably Sangiovese, with a characteristic bouquet of spicy fruit and savoury earthiness. Rich cherry fruits on the palate are offset by dried herbs and black olives.

Eighteen months in French oak and smooth, persistent tannins add complexity and texture to the long, savoury palate.

Chosen in his top 20 Sangioveses, Max Allen on the Selector website praises our 2007 Sangiovese, ‘An abundance of oak isn’t a problem when the fruit balances well with it. This wine has clean and vibrant berry flavours with underlying earthiness, complemented by toasty tannins. A wine this big requires a food match.’

A member favourite, the 2006 Silent Showman Shiraz sold out in record time and we’ve been fielding requests for the new vintage ever since.

Here it is in a similar style to the 2006, with incredible mocha aromas, blackberry and chocolate running through the palate, and plump ripe tannins providing a soft rounded structure. A parcel of this wine was barrel fermented in French barriques. Early bottling has captured these flavours, and bottling under screw cap means this wine will retain its freshness for many years to come.

This wine is drinking beautifully now and will cellar well for many years, if you can keep your hands off it that is. Screw cap.

Sparkling Shiraz is uniquely Australian, and for many, popping a cork of sparkling red on Christmas morning is a tradition not to be missed.

Tasting note: A concentrated bouquet of blackberry and spice lead into a ripe, generous palate of berry fruit, licorice and subtle oak. Silky tannins and just a hint of sweetness give a soft, rounded texture and a lingering finish. Don’t keep it just for Christmas.

This limited release magnum is produced from the best shiraz grapes in the Tallis Wine vineyard. Inky purple in the glass, the nose opens with concentrated blackberry and licorice aromas and the elegant palate shows depth of flavour and complexity. This wine displays excellent cellaring potential due to the abundance of flavour and the ripe, smooth tannins. Cellar for many years or enjoy now with (lots of) friends.

Viticulture notes

Dookie is proving itself to be an excellent growing region for merlot and this release is testimony to that fact. Our vineyard continues to produce dense colour and depth of flavour in our Merlot grapes with the 2007 vintage showing youthful purple and dark crimson hues.

Tasting notes

Fresh and vibrant, this wine is crammed with plum and blackcurrant aromas. The opulent juicy berry palate is balanced by savoury, leafy characters and dark chocolate oak. Fluffy, ripe tannins create a mouth filling texture and lingering finish.
