Located hillside on the Tallis property, Richard and Alice have recently leased their cellar door building to locals (Tess, Hannah, Jarrod and Luke) and this much-loved Dookie destination has now evolved into a new business, ‘Rye at Tallis’; independently operated and no longer run by Tallis Wine.
The cellar door building has been reimagined into a wine bar and events space, where Tallis wine will be showcased, in the hills where it was born, alongside other local beverages and regional produce from across the valley.

In 2011 Richard and Alice realised they needed a cellar door. Opened in early 2012 the building was designed in collaboration with Richard’s brother, architect John Tallis.
The philosophy behind the building was to minimise the impact on the environment, maintain a connection with the landscape and provide a relaxed space to enjoy wine.
The building features an energy-efficient layout constructed from recycled materials and straw bales grown on the property and to many it looks like just another farm shed on top of a hill.
Eleven years on, the Tallis building is now home to ‘Rye at Tallis’
